Self-Storage FAQ

What size storage unit do I need?

Each of our storage facilities offers a variety of storage types in a number of different sizes. Use the following information as a rough estimation of exactly how much can fit in each unit:

  • 5x10 Unit (50 sq. ft.): Ideal for storing the contents of a studio apartment, including a number of boxes, kitchen appliances, small mattress set, chairs, or even a motorcycle.
  • 10x6 Unit (60 sq. ft.): Nearly identical to a 5x10 unit just with a wider door and shallower storage-depth.  Tends to make accessing your items slightly easier than a 5x10.
  • 7x9 Unit (63 sq. ft.): Fits furnishings of a mid-sized bedroom, including a queen-sized bed, a dresser, a TV and several small to medium-sized boxes.
  • 5x15 Unit (75 sq. ft.): Great for storing the contents of a 1 bedroom apartment.  Ideal for furniture including a couch, chair and small dinning set, sporting equipment, bicycles, business merchandise, seasonal items, and sporting equipment.
  • 8x12 Unit (96 sq. ft.): Ideal for storing contents of a 2 bedroom space. Perfect for holding an entertainment center, king-size mattresses, larger appliance, furniture and other various items.
  • 10x10 Unit (100 sq. ft.): Also ideal for storing the contents of a 2 bedroom space with a little extra room for larger appliances, etc.
  • 10x12 Unit & 8x15 Unit (120 sq. ft.): Great for storing large screen t.v.'s, bikes, treadmills and other sporting equipment.
  • 10x15 Unit (150 sq. ft.): Fits the contents of three full bedrooms and larger items such as a piano, couches, tables, or large-screen TVs, plus several medium to large-sized boxes.
  • 12x20 Unit (240 sq. ft.): Fits the contents of a multi-bedhroom house, including several oversized items like a couch, refrigerator, a washer/dryer and a dining room set or several large boxes. Could also accommodate a small car.
  • 10x25 Unit (250 sq. ft.): Great for storing a small boat with trailer with some room to spare.  Fill the rest of your space with a couch, small chairs, small bedroom furniture set, and other miscellaneous items. Moving across country?  This size unit is ideal for storing the contents of a large home while you settle in.

What contents are not suitable for self-storage units?

  • Combustible, flammable, toxic and other hazardous materials.
  • Perishable food & animal products.
  • Stolen items.
  • Drugs and/or drug paraphernalia.

How should I pack items for storage?

  • Box your items - anything left un-boxed can get dusty. Fill boxes to capacity. Foam peanuts are handy for filling gaps in boxes.
  • Label everything - It's important to stay organized. Keep a permanent marker handy for labeling and make a master list of items to keep at home.
  • Weight it out - distribute weight in boxes evenly and keep in mind the weight of contents when stacking boxes.
  • Fragile - wrap all breakable items separately and pack these items into strong or reinforced boxes. Fill gaps with foam peanuts or other packing material. Mark boxes as "FRAGILE".
